The co-operative processed local milk into butter and formed a characteristic part of Bredevoort&#8217;s early twentieth-century industry.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chairman J.B. Swijtink sold a plot of land to the co-operative. The factory was designed by B.H. Kolenbrander. On 21 July 1904 J.G. St\u00f6cker, son of the former president of the preceding factory, laid the foundation stone. G.J. Elschot carried out the construction work for 2,642 guilders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The factory went into operation in mid-November 1904. During its first months it processed 280,819 litres of milk and generated income of 9,715.65 guilders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">After the butter factory<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1947 Jan Willem Schepers and Johan Lammers established Chemische Industrie en Produktenhandel S.E.L., later SEL Chemie, in the same premises, giving the building a new industrial use.
