It begins as a continuation of <a href=\"https:\/\/oldaalten.nl\/en\/place\/bredevoort\/ambthuiswal\/\" data-type=\"adres\" data-id=\"46520\">Ambthuiswal<\/a> and then splits in two. One branch runs towards <a href=\"https:\/\/oldaalten.nl\/en\/place\/bredevoort\/zand\/\" data-type=\"adres\" data-id=\"15451\">&#8216;t Zand<\/a>, with an alley leading to <a href=\"https:\/\/oldaalten.nl\/en\/place\/bredevoort\/gasthuisstraat\/\" data-type=\"adres\" data-id=\"46525\">Gasthuisstraat<\/a>, the former Ganzenmarkt. The other branch splits again, one way towards &#8216;t Zand and the other towards Izermanstraat, where the street ends.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hozenstraat could be laid out at the end of the 17th century after Bredevoort\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/oldaalten.nl\/en\/war-resistance\/bredevoort-fortress\/\">fortifications<\/a> were expanded. The old town wall was demolished after an earthen rampart had been built all the way around <a href=\"https:\/\/oldaalten.nl\/en\/place\/bredevoort\/zand\/bredevoort-castle\/\" data-type=\"adres\" data-id=\"11042\">Bredevoort Castle<\/a>. The newly available space between the castle and the rampart created a dead-end street shaped like a stocking, or <em>hozze<\/em> in the local Bredevoort dialect, from which the street takes its name. The area was inhabited mainly by members of the <a href=\"https:\/\/oldaalten.nl\/en\/religion\/jewish-community\/\">Jewish community<\/a>. After the castle moats were filled in, the Jewish community also had a burial ground on De Hozze, popularly known as \u2018De Timp\u2019. Bredevoort\u2019s first synagogue was opened on the adjoining Ganzenmarkt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hozenstraat contains timber-framed houses that are nationally listed monuments. In addition, with eight municipally listed monuments, the street has a relatively high concentration of protected historic
