Vismarkt is a street and small square in Bredevoort\u2019s old centre. It branches off Landstraat<\/a> and today splits in two directions. One branch leads to the Molenwal<\/a> and then ends as a road, although a footpath still provides access to the town rampart. The other branch leads into ‘t Walletje<\/a>, a small street that once ran parallel to the curtain rampart here.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The square is now so small that there would barely be room for a single fishmonger. It must once have been larger, as can be seen on old maps of Bredevoort. The Bredevoort Synagogue<\/a> also stood here and remained in use until the First World War; the building was converted into a house in 1920.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is also a pump on Vismarkt, formerly known as Broeckhuijsens Putte bij de Rosmolen<\/em>. Directly in front of the pump, the complete foundations of the former horse mill still lie beneath the ground. Vismarkt was Bredevoort\u2019s third market. The town once also had a Ganzenmarkt, between Hozenstraat<\/a> and Gasthuisstraat<\/a>.
