With an active committee and deeply rooted festivities, the association has connected young and old in the neighbourhood for decades.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Foundation and history<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The association was founded in 1946, shortly after the Second World War. The festivities were embraced enthusiastically by local residents from the outset. Historical newspaper archives show that the earliest celebrations took place at locations such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/oldaalten.nl\/plaats\/heurne\/kempinkweg\/1\/\">Kempink<\/a> farm (1946), and later for many years in the meadow and large barn at <a href=\"https:\/\/oldaalten.nl\/plaats\/heurne\/hamelandroute\/72\/\">\u2019t Slaa<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The association enjoyed broad support in the community from an early stage; by 1954 \u2018Den Vaderlandt Getrouwe\u2019 already had 380 members. From the beginning it worked closely with neighbouring associations to provide the programme. The LUKAS theatre society from Heurne, and occasionally O.B.K. from Miste, traditionally staged plays on the festival evenings, while music societies such as <a href=\"https:\/\/oldaalten.nl\/en\/culture-sports\/music-song\/advendo-lintelo-music-society\/\">Advendo<\/a> from Lintelo, <a href=\"https:\/\/oldaalten.nl\/en\/culture-sports\/music-song\/crescendo-ijzerlo\/\">Crescendo<\/a> from IJzerlo and <a href=\"https:\/\/oldaalten.nl\/en\/culture-sports\/music-song\/excelsior-barlo\/\">Excelsior<\/a> from Barlo provided the music. Speakers at the festivities, including local head teachers and chairmen such as J.W. Colenbrander and Joh. Legters, regularly stressed the meaning behind the association\u2019s name: loyalty to the country and to the House of Orange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Annual activities and membership<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today the Orange association is run by a committee of nine members. To strengthen ties within the neighbourhood, it organises a variety of activities each year. These include a regular King\u2019s Day gathering at which residents raise a glass together to the King\u2019s birthday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The highlight of the association\u2019s year is the Heurne Orange Festival. This three-day marksmen\u2019s festival traditionally takes place in July. The programme has long included traditional games and children\u2019s activities. Characteristic customs such as \u2018collecting the king\u2019 \u2013 ceremonially collecting the previous year\u2019s marksmen\u2019s king from his home \u2013 and the subsequent shooting competition to choose the new king form the heart of the festival. The celebrations traditionally end with a royal ball in honour of the newly crowned king or queen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The association\u2019s plans and the evaluation of its activities are discussed at the annual members\u2019 meeting on the last Friday in January. Membership is open to anyone who lives in Aalten\u2019s Heurne or feels connected with the neighbourhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-80th-anniversary\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">80th anniversary<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The year 2026 marks the association\u2019s 80th anniversary, with an extensive programme of celebrations spread throughout the year. Alongside a party evening for members, a cycle ride and a communal lunch on King\u2019s Day, a four-day festival week in July forms the main official celebration. The programme reflects the association\u2019s historic traditions and concludes with a marquee party on the grounds of the local community centre, <a href=\"https:\/\/oldaalten.nl\/en\/place\/sunday-school-heurne\/\">D\u2019n Heurnsen Tref<\/a> on Brethouwerweg in Aalten\u2019s Heurne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div
