Havenstraat 172, Rotterdam-Delfshaven
On Havenstraat in Rotterdam-Delfshaven stands a house dating from 1886, with Aalten’s coat of arms — the lime tree — high on its façade (view it on Google Street View).
We do not yet know what connection there was between the person who commissioned the house, Fred(e)rik van Aalten (Woudenberg, 1820 – Rotterdam, 1904), and the municipality of Aalten. His surname naturally suggests a historical connection, although that link may go back a very long way. Frederik may have wanted to express that association without himself knowing exactly how the relationship worked. Further information is very welcome.
