Overview
Hotel Ruimzicht, later known as Café Goldewijk, was originally built in the style of an urban farmhouse. For many years the building served as the presbytery of the first Roman Catholic church established in Bredevoort after the Reformation of 1597, when a church was once again established there in 1798.
During the intervening two centuries, Bredevoort’s Catholics worshipped at the Kruiskapel, just across the border in Hemden. After St George’s Church was completed in 1876, the old church was demolished and the presbytery was converted for hospitality use. De Kantlijn bookshop now occupies the building.
