Gerrit Jan (Gert) Wevers was born on Friday 16 May 1919 at Kolenbroekweg 2 in Lintelo. He was the eldest of five children of bricklayer Wilhelm Theodorus Wevers and Grada Frederika Vreman.
In the late 1920s the family moved to a farm at Varsseveldsestraatweg 67.
After primary school, Gert had to start work immediately, as was customary at the time. In the early 1930s he went into service at Nieuw Kappers farm in De Heurne, Aalten. Shortly after his fifteenth birthday, on 19 May 1934, he moved to a farm in Groot Breedenbroek, whose address is not yet known. Less than a year later, on 23 April 1935, he was deregistered there and moved to Aalten, to a location that is also not yet known.
He apparently then moved to the municipality of Dinxperlo, as this was recorded as his previous place of residence when he was registered in Aalten again on 29 April 1937. He then lived with the Bulsink family at Nieuw Nonhof, a now-lost farm on Pasopweg near the present Romiendal. He probably remained there until his marriage.
He may also have met his future wife during this period, as her parents lived at ’t Paske, also on Pasopweg and only about 500 metres from Nieuw Nonhof as the crow flies.

On 18 June 1942 Gert married Johanna Hendrika Duenk. They had four daughters. Their second daughter, Dinie, sadly died at the age of five in 1950. At that time they lived at Parallelweg 14a in Aalten.
Gert was known as a hard worker. By nature he preferred to remain quietly in the background and was not much of a talker.
Gerrit Jan Wevers died on Friday 23 June 2000, aged 81. He was buried at Berkenhove cemetery in Aalten, plot 489.
