Overview
Aalten railway station (abbreviation: ATN) is a station of the large GOLS type on the Arnhem-Winterswijk railway line. Construction began in 1884 for the Geldersch-Overijsselsche Lokaalspoorwegmaatschappij (GOLS), and the station opened on 15 July 1885.

This station type had a rectangular floor plan, with a gable facing both the street and the platform. The ground floor contained a ticket office, luggage room, entrance hall with ticket window and waiting room. The stationmaster’s residence was on the upper floor.
In 1919, Aalten station was remodelled: the left wing was doubled in size, a low wing was added to the right-hand section, and an extra storey was added to the central part. The building has remained largely unchanged since then.
After 2006, the building passed into private ownership after Nederlandse Spoorwegen sold it by public tender. The station building is designated as a municipal monument. In August 2021, when the Dutch page was written, it was being offered for sale.
