Bernardus Gerhardus Johannes Joseph Lurvink was born on 21 March 1910 in Aalten. He came from the well-known Aalten family of brushmakers. His father, Martinus Johannes Joseph Lurvink, continued the family tradition in the brush factory later known as M.J.J. Lurvink.
Brushmaker and shopkeeper
Bernardus initially chose the brushmaking trade as well. In the population register for 1930–1940, however, he is recorded not only as a brushmaker but also as a shopkeeper. From 1937 he lived with his wife Hendrina Johanna Jansen at Hogestraat 35.
De Goedkope Winkel
Since 1936 this address had housed the Aalten branch of De Goedkope Winkel, a retail business owned by Huls of Doetinchem. Bernardus Lurvink became manager of the Aalten branch.
On 1 March 1940 he took over the branch from Huls. He was allowed to continue using the name De Goedkope Winkel. Lurvink thus became an independent shopkeeper on Hogestraat.

Family
Lurvink married Hendrina Johanna Jansen (1904) in 1937. Although he came from Aalten’s family of brush manufacturers and began as a brushmaker himself, he built an independent livelihood as a shopkeeper on Hogestraat.
Death
Bernardus Gerhardus Johannes Joseph Lurvink died on 23 February 1984 in Winterswijk, aged 73.
