‘t Dal is now the small street between Steile Dalweg and Beeklaan, south of and parallel to part of Hogestraat. When street names were formalised in 1933, however, ‘t Dal was described as follows:
“Wijk van verspreide huizen … welke wijk omvat de gronden, begrensd ten noorden door de zuidgrens der perceelen sectie I, nos. 6261, 635, 638, 5752, 4524, 5467, 5468, 2906, 2909, 2910, 4964, 4965, 5310, 1335, 5106 en 3557, gelegen ten zuiden van de Hoogestraat, ten oosten door een denkbeeldige rechte lijn getrokken van den zuidoosthoek van perceel 3557 naar de Koembrug en ten zuiden en westen door de Slingebeek.”
In English: “A district of scattered houses … comprising the land bounded to the north by the southern boundaries of the listed plots south of Hoogestraat, to the east by an imaginary straight line from the south-eastern corner of plot 3557 to Koembrug, and to the south and west by the Slingebeek.”
This area now includes not only ‘t Dal itself but also Beeklaan, Dalweg, Steile Dalweg and Slingelaan. The new street names were adopted in 1955. The old and new layouts can be compared clearly on Topotijdreis.
House numbering in the area changed so extensively that it is not yet entirely clear how the old and new numbers correspond. Some of the address and resident histories below may therefore not always match the present-day address. A comparable situation exists in Kemena. In short: work in progress.
