Meeting hall of the Assembly of Believers

The Plymouth Brethren (the Assembly of Believers), also locally known as the Darbisten (Darbyites), held their first meetings in Aalten in 1882. In the early years, the believers gathered in a residential house on the Bodenvoor.

In 1902, a simple meeting hall was built on a connecting path between Oosterkerkstraat and Meiberg. The small building served as the congregation’s place of assembly for decades.

Relocation and Demolition

In 1968, shortly before its demolition, the old little church was documented in photographs. A few years later, in 1974, the congregation moved into a new building, which was also located on Meiberg.

Following its sale, the old meeting hall became the property of Spinkat and was ultimately demolished. With its removal, a piece of early 20th-century church history vanished from the Aalten streetscape.
