Overview
In 1904 the Christian primary school in IJzerlo opened with 55 pupils. In the 1950s the school reached its peak with 140 pupils. Its first headmasters were S. Schipper (1904–1906) and E. de Vries (1906–1936).
During the Second World War, the school building was badly damaged by a stray aircraft bomb. After liberation the school was repaired. Because building materials were scarce, several different kinds of brick had to be used. The building was painted white to disguise the differences. The school reopened in 1947.
In 1978 the school moved into a new building named ‘t Warmelinck, referring to the farm that had formerly stood on the site.
Pupil numbers fluctuated over the years. By 1996 they had fallen to 59, below the municipal minimum of 65, putting the school’s future under pressure.
The arrival of young families, many moving into their parents’ former homes, together with new housing in IJzerlo, caused pupil numbers to rise again. In 2004 the school had 106 pupils.
In 1985 the primary and nursery schools merged to form a single primary school. In 1990 the nursery pupils also moved to ‘t Warmelinck. The nursery school had been founded in 1960 and occupied its own building from 1969 until 1990.
