Cadastral reference: B-2003
Function: Elementary school, Primary school
Year built: 1930

Overview

The public primary school on Schoolstraat in Bredevoort was built in 1929/1930 for the Municipality of Aalten. Until then, public education in Bredevoort had been provided at the school on ‘t Zand.

The school building is characteristic of its period, with a restrained architectural style influenced by the Amsterdam School. Both the overall form and the detailing have retained much of their original character.

The new school opened on 29 April 1930, but it had only a short life as a school. Because pupil numbers were too low, it closed again in 1935.

In 1946 the building was taken over by the Christian Farmers’ and Market Gardeners’ Association, which established a junior agricultural school there. It was later used as a Roman Catholic nursery school and subsequently housed the playgroup Doortje.

Today the building is used by De Slinge Angling Association (HSV) and the ‘Bredevoort Schittert‘ working group.
