Overview
On 24 December 1833 the municipality invited tenders for ‘the construction of an entirely new school for the hamlet of Lintelo’. From 1834 to 1878 Ernst Frederik Avenarius was the schoolmaster. In 1861 the school had 131 pupils, all taught by Avenarius alone. His annual salary at the time was 400 guilders.
In 1878 D.R. Bouhuijs was appointed headmaster; after his death he was succeeded by H. Wensink. From 1904 to 1911 G.J. Meinen was head of the public school. He was also the first treasurer of Lintelo’s Belang, founded in 1906.
In 1921 the building was replaced by a new school building. By the 1950s the school had only a handful of pupils and was closed. The building was subsequently converted into two homes.
