Overview
St Ludger’s School was a Roman Catholic elementary school on Ludgerstraat in Aalten, built in the 1960s/1970s as a second school alongside the existing St Joseph’s School. Plans for a second elementary school were already being developed by the Roman Catholic school board around 1965. The new building officially opened in 1970.
For the school, artist Joop Kruip created the mosaic ‘Playing Children’, which was installed in the school that same year. The artwork remained visible there for more than 25 years and is remembered by countless pupils and teachers.
In 1997 St Ludger’s School merged with St Joseph’s School. After the merger, the combined school continued in the St Joseph’s School building. Joop Kruip’s mosaic moved with it and was given a new place there.
