Trompstraat in Aalten is named after Maarten Harpertszoon Tromp (1598–1653), a Dutch admiral renowned for his naval victories during the First Anglo-Dutch War.
The street name was adopted by the municipal authorities in 1933, describing a road “running from Admiraal de Ruyterstraat near the so-called ‘Tuindorp’, curving southwards to Eerste Broekdijk, and south of the railway forming part of the boundary of the built-up area.” The railway crossing in Trompstraat was later closed.
