Wehmerstraat 2

Overview

The Land Registry gives 1920 as the year of construction. Cadastral records show that a parsonage already stood on the plot before then; by the mid-nineteenth century it was already referred to as ‘The Old Parsonage’.

A legend connected with the old parsonage tells of a hellhound. According to tradition, a large black dog appeared at the old parsonage at midnight. It wandered around rattling a chain, then jumped into the stream and disappeared. Older residents insisted that it was the spirit of the pastor who had become a Protestant during the Reformation.
