Today, when most people in Aalten hear the name Dorcas, they think of the charity shop in the former Winkelhorst car garage on Nijverheidsweg.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, however, Aalten already had a sewing society with the same name. The name Dorcas comes from Greek and means ‘gazelle’.

According to the caption on postvanvroeger.nl, the photograph shown here was taken in 1930 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Dorcas sewing society in Aalten.
