Music society
Christian music society Crescendo in IJzerlo was founded in 1951. In the early 1950s, people in IJzerlo felt the need to establish their own music society. They thought it absurd that Psalm 150 from Dinxperlo had to provide the music during the annual Orange and school festival. A committee was formed to investigate whether a music society could be established in IJzerlo.
Through Jan Hofs of Dinxperlo, an offer had come in from the Van der Glas firm in Heerenveen. For 1,580 guilders, the society could acquire 26 fanfare instruments. It was decided to make a collection round in IJzerlo and the surrounding area. People gave generously — the proceeds came to 1,800 guilders — and the instruments could be purchased. Thirty-two members joined, Jan Hofs from Dinxperlo became the conductor and the subscription was set at 0.25 cents per week. On 17 November 1951, the Crescendo music society in IJzerlo became a reality.
Today Crescendo IJzerlo has about 85 members. The society comprises a brass band, percussion group, youth band and youth percussion group. It also has a number of pupils learning to play an instrument so that they can later join one of the ensembles.
