Today and tomorrow, a group of television producers from Japan is in Aalten to make footage for an episode in a series of seven films about the Netherlands, which will be broadcast on Japanese television. The group works for the Tokyo Broadcasting System and came to Aalten through the Achterhoek regional tourist board in Zutphen.
The series of seven films about the Netherlands, each lasting fifteen minutes, was filmed mainly in the western part of the country, in the major cities. The Japanese crew also wanted to capture life on a farm elsewhere in the Netherlands. When they sought advice from agricultural circles in The Hague, people remembered the publicity Aalten had received at the time of a visit by Minister of Agriculture P. J. Lardinois. Nor did the Japanese want a farm specialising exclusively in cattle or pigs; preferably they wanted a mixed farm where they could record the various aspects of Dutch farming life in one go.
Through the regional tourist board, they were referred to Aalten, to the farm of Mr A.D.W. Houwers on the Heijinkdijk. After an initial meeting yesterday afternoon, the Japanese crew began filming this afternoon. The Houwers family were asked simply to go about their normal daily routine and not to stage anything special. The Japanese television crew also plans to visit the illuminated boat parade in Bredevoort this evening, where filming may also take place.
