Hofstraat provides the shortest route between the centre of the village and the old manor farm De Pol (De Ahof). For a long time it was little more than a sandy track. Its importance increased after the construction of Herman Driessen’s textile factory, Villa Beukenhof and the Sociëteit.
The passage towards Kerkstraat was very narrow and was once also known as ‘den duusterne gang’. In the first half of the 20th century, the building at Kerkstraat 9, also known as the ‘Lensink-schure’, was demolished to widen this part of Hofstraat.
