Plein Zuid in Aalten was still part of Dijkstraat until 1955. That year, Dagblad Tubantia reported:
“At the corner of Bodendijk, Bocholtsestraat, Dinxperlosestraat and Eerste Broekdijk, a built-up area has developed which until now had no name. Residents gradually began referring to it as Plein, rather a grand name, since anyone expecting to find a large square here would be mistaken. During the past year, however, official documents also began using the name Plein, and the municipal executive now proposes making this the official name for the area. It also wishes to apply the name to the stretch of road leading to the railway crossing and connecting with Dijkstraat, as the executive writes. Until now this section was also called Dijkstraat and in itself has little in common with a square.”
