Overview
Beside Aalten railway station, diagonally opposite Hotel De Besker, there was a cattle weighbridge until the mid-1960s or perhaps even the 1970s. The weighbridge formed part of the Co-operative Agricultural Association and was used to inspect and weigh livestock intended for slaughter.
After inspection, the livestock was transported by road or rail to its final destination. That destination could be very nearby: the municipal abattoir (later KSA) stood on the opposite side of the railway line.
