Cattle Weighbridge

Stationsstraat, Aalten

Next to Aalten railway station, diagonally opposite Hotel De Besker, a cattle weighbridge stood until the mid-1960s or even 1970s (?). The weighbridge was part of the Agricultural Cooperative Society and served for the inspection and weighing of livestock intended for slaughter.

After inspection, the livestock was transported to its final destination by road or rail. That destination could, in fact, be very close by, namely the municipal slaughterhouse (later KSA) on the other side of the railway line.
