Anton had inmiddels een eerste katoenspinnerij opgezet in de “schuur en tuinkamer van Bonninghoff”, maar zocht een beter toegeruste locatie in het hart van het dorp.

Het pand aan de Landstraat werd grondig verbouwd tot spinnerij, met machines op zowel de begane grond als de verdieping. De verbouwing stuitte op weerstand van omwonenden, waaronder schoolmeester Herman Schotman en landbouwer Willem Oberink, die vreesden voor geluidsoverlast, brandgevaar én moreel verval door de inzet van arbeiderskinderen tot in de avonduren. Hun bezwaarschrift werd echter door het gemeentebestuur ongegrond verklaard. Ook een beroep op de Gouverneur van Gelderland bracht geen verandering: het belang van werkgelegenheid en industriële ontwikkeling woog zwaarder dan het ongemak van de buren.

Rond 1862 verdween de spinnerij op deze locatie. Vermoedelijk werd de productie verplaatst naar het groeiende fabriekscomplex van de Gebr. Driessen aan de Dijkstraat. Het pand aan de Landstraat werd afgebroken. Vervolgens verrees op dit perceel een statig woonhuis, waar Anton’s zoon Herman en zijn vrouw gingen wonen.

Begin 20e eeuw vestigde zich hier drukkerij, uitgeverij en boekhandel De Graafschap, die begin jaren dertig verhuisde naar de Geurdenstraat. Daarna volgden diverse andere ondernemingen, waaronder kruidenier Heusinkveld, Sportcentrum ‘Adje’, bloemisterij Oxalis en tegenwoordig bloemisterij Kuypers.
